R&D
FPC’s main R&D capabilities (ISO 9001:2008 and MUIR certified) are located in northern Italy. With over 10 years’ experience, this team of chemists has established itself as a competent, reliable and creative source of new synthetic routes, analytical solutions, reference compounds and commercially unavailable chemicals. The equipment allows syntheses from 1mg to 100g scale (-80°C to +250°C). A multipurpose plant with 5L and 20L glass lined reactors (-50°C to +250°C) range and hydrogenation apparatus with glass (1L, max 3 bar) or steel (3L, max 6 bar) interchangeable reactors enables one-stop R&D, from route development to scale-up, before transferring the technology to the Joint Venture or to other partners.
The synthetic capabilities are strong and well-documented, with over 400 projects spanning a rich number of organic reactions and techniques. A particular expertise lies in medium-pressure hydrogenation, incorporation of stable isotopes, chiral synthesis and optical separation. The analytical lab is well-equipped, with a range of HPLC, GC and HPLC-MS spectrometers, a KF titrometer and a 300 MHz NMR.
This is the first step in developing FPC’s new strategies, with the opportunity to include early scale-up studies.
